Revisited: Kim Dae Mun (Concorde Hotel Singapore)

By Kawayama

My previous entry on Kim Dae Mun was based on my last visit to the Korean eatery before it shifted out of the food court. I’m back to satisfy my cravings for Korean cuisine at their new outlet, located at level two in the same building. From the guard desk located at the entrance, turn right and walk all the way to the end.

20140720_191443If your stomach still have space, why not order a serving of the fried dumplings? It goes very well with the ramyeon.

20140826_175815Dumpling soup makes a great dish on both hot days (no appetite) and rainy days (warms the body). I thought the dumpling soup is merely dumplings in soup but I’m glad to find out that the cook also added generous portion of vegetables, rice cakes and shredded chicken.

20140826_175852I recommend the steamed saba fish set meal. The fish is tender and has absorb the flavors of the sauce. The sauce is very similar to dakbokkeumtang and you can taste the beautiful flavors of the garlic, onions and chilli.

I love the new outlet of the Korean eatery as it is spacious and quiet. Though the prices of food have increased, the food remains affordable and tasty. If you are in the vicinity, why not drop by Kim Dae Mun for an authentic Korean meal? You wouldn’t be disappointed.

Kim Dae Mun (Concorde Hotel Singapore)

By Kawayama

Fans of Korean food will be delighted to know that some of the best tasting authentic Korean food in the garden city can be found at Kim Dae Mun, the most popular food stall that has been operating at the ground floor food court of Concorde Hotel Singapore. I will patronised this Korean eatery whenever I am in that area because the food is tasty, portion is big (for someone with a big appetite like me) and prices remained affordable.

20130320_173314This is my must-have dish whenever I visit Kim Dae Mum, the orgasmic spicy ramyeon comes with a side dish of either myeolchi-bokkeum (stir-fried anchovies) or kimchi.

20130320_173338What I love most about Kim Dae Mun’s ramyeon is the comforting broth which makes me wanna slurp up the entire bowl of yummy goodness in one go. The broth is three-dimensional in flavors, not overly spicy and complements the bouncy noodles very well. As you mix the toasted seaweed shreds with the broth, the flavor changes. Sometimes when I want an instant food-orgasm, I would break up the egg, mix the yolk with the broth to elevate the flavors and slurp it up. There is a generous serving of vegetables which boost up the nutritional value of the ramyeon. I can have this noodle dish on any day regardless of the weather. It helps to boost my appetite on a hot day and warms me up on a cold day.

20130320_173358Though it would be better to have some kimchi with the ramyeon, I will always pick myeolchi-bokkeum (stir-fried anchovies) as my side dish. The crunchy, aromatic, savory and sweet anchovies added a different texture to my noodle dish.

20130320_173424If I have another person to join me for a meal at the Korean eatery or when I am famished, I will order a potato pancake. The pancake is crispy on the outside and yet remains chewy on the inside which makes it a satisfying side dish for the carbohydrate fanatic (me). I like to dunk the pancake into my ramyeon broth and let it soak up the yummy goodness though it already taste good on its own.

20130320_173457Another favorite side dish of mine is mandu (dumplings), I love this dish because it taste like a home-cooked dish and comforts the hungry soul.

In my opinion, Kim Dae Mum offers the best tasting authentic Korean food among the food courts in Singapore. There are other dishes that are worth recommending such as the spicy stew (choice of chicken, pork, seafood and fish) with rice and bulgogi (chicken, pork or beef) rice set. The Korean eatery has shifted out of the food court and will be operating at new spot located at level two in the same building from mid June 2014. I hope their prices will continue to remain affordable and the food portions will stay the same.
